Dealing with tooth loss can feel like a heavy weight on your shoulders, whether you’re predominantly focused on the way the gaps in your smile affect how others see you or you can’t speak and eat as easily as you once could. Fortunately, our team at Lexington Smile Studio offers a simple and lasting solution, called a dental bridge. This restoration is custom-designed to replace several missing teeth in a row. Call our office today to learn whether it’s right for you!
Dental bridges are comprised of two main parts: dental crowns that anchor the restoration within the mouth and free-standing replacement teeth fused between them, called pontics. Bridges are able to replace anywhere between one and four consecutive missing teeth in an arch, literally acting to bridge the gap between two natural teeth. Each of our restorations is custom-crafted to not only look completely natural, but also fit perfectly atop your existing teeth for lasting results.
During your consultation with our experienced board-certified prosthodontist and implant dentist, Dr. Mario Gatti, he will answer any questions you may have as well as lay out all of your possible treatment options for you. Depending on your smile goals, timeline, and budget, you may be a good candidate for either of the following types of dental bridges in Lexington.
Traditional dental bridges are exactly the same as those described above. They’re anchored to the two natural teeth located on either side of the gap in your smile. While this is a more cost-effective solution that can still prevent dental drift, some patients prefer not to alter the structure of their healthy existing teeth.
For patients looking for more lifelike results and an even longer lifespan, we also offer dental bridges that are retained by implants, which are small titanium posts that are designed to replace the roots of missing teeth. This means that no alteration of your healthy dental structure will be necessary to support your bridge.
Investing in a dental bridge will benefit you in numerous ways, including:
Dental bridges can last between five to 10 years with proper care. Be sure to brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily. Also, maintain your routine dental visits. The dental exams and cleanings will detect issues early on while maintaining your new smile. Dental bridges are made to withstand normal chewing, however, avoid biting on hard surfaces and chewing hard food. Should your bridge become damaged or loose, contact us right away. The underlying teeth or implants can become exposed to bacteria.
